Editorial Reviews
John R. Hall, Retired Chairman of the Board and CEO, Ashland, Inc. Former American Motors Chairman and CEO Gerald Meyers takes us behind the scenes at Texaco, Lucent, Intel, and other top companies for an up-close look at different leadership styles in action during times of crisis. Meyers is on a first-name basis with all of the leaders profiled, each of whom candidly describes what he thought and felt while searching for solutions. Stories include "Brilliant Brute" Bob Crandall, who pulled American Airlines out of a tailspin; "Peacemaker" RJR Nabisco's Steve Goldstone, who engineered a resolution to the tobacco wars; as well as other "saviors," "sizzle sellers," "unorthodox operators," and "dealmakers." Meyers and his coauthor distill crucial lessons for today's managers.
"Dealers, Healers, Brutes, and Saviors is must reading for any executive, who too often does not recognize a crisis until it's too late. Gerald Meyers' keen insight into crisis management has been invaluable to many corporate CEOs, including me."
